Monarch — A Poem about Feeling Like Your Going Nowhere.

A monarch
on a sidewalk
wings pressed flat
to hot concrete
crawling along
trying to fly

Myself
on that sidewalk
crawling along
a slab concrete
feeling flattened
trying to fly

There are many times I’ve felt like I was crawling along hot concrete, especially in the summertime down here in the South.
