Loon — A Poem about the Minnesota State Bird (that takes place in Wisconsin)

Riding on a rise
of waves a loon
melts into murk
moving under
the pontoon
and appears
the other side
giving a flick
of black beak
and peering
curiously about
as I try to whistle
it’s lonely tune

~~~~~~~~~
This is actually something I often do when out fishing. Once, out fishing alone on the ‘toon, I whistled at the same loon for a good half hour or so, and had the beautiful bird within a few feet of the edge of the pontoon. However, my loon whistle is no where near as good as my dad’s. He has thrown people off with it while standing on the dock. He’d whistle and people would get all excited there was a loon about. Bwahahah… Though I have never seen him whistle one in to a few feet from him.
Thanks for readying. 🙂
