Dark nights bark out into the dying dusk.
gunpowder sky winks secrets
Men lay on beds of grassy intellect
Dogs whisper to each other
as night intrudes upon their kennel and chain life
Children lie awake in crib and bunk bed
sleepy land gasping at queer shadows.
Mothers comfort them with soft words
Sisters and brother fight in the protection of night
Their words take on ethereal edges
Lovers cradle themselves in a web of arms and legs
An endless act of proving their love
Dreams sit in the empty darkness
Colors assailing their starry eyes, searching for a vision
Poets run naked through dream fields
and sleep off the drunkenness of the day.
